Pigmentation

Dreams can have pigmentation of facts, let not your beauty have

SUN TAN (Solar Pigmentation / Solar Lentigines)

Sun tanning or simply tanning is the process whereby skin colour is darkened or tanned. It is most often a result of exposure to ultraviolet (UV) radiation from sunlight or from artificial sources.

Solar lentigos, as the name indicates, is caused by too much sun exposure, when the skin starts reacting to the UV (Ultra Violet) rays from the sun. Seen on the areas that are the most exposed to UV rays, Sun Burn Pigmentation is a common concern.

Freckles: genetic, young age problem of uneven distribution of melanin. Flat, tanned and matchstick head sized.Post- inflammatory hyper pigmentation (PIH) - develops through inflamed wounds. Keratinocytes produces excessive melanin and results in skin decolourisation. This will be aggravated by chemical peel. Laser treatment and IPL

Computer Radiation spots(CRS) - these are the spots develop due to long period of exposure to computers and mobile phones, which causes static electricity and radiation that damage the skin

Post Acne Pigmentation (PAP)

When acne lesions heal completely, they often give rise to PAP as a direct result of the over production of melanin in reaction to inflammation on the affected area.

Under Eye

With age, most individuals frequently notice sunken eyes and dark circles at a greater frequency, although many young people suffer from dark circles, as well. These can affect one's appearance quite profoundly, making individuals look tired, sickly and unhealthy, even when they may be in good health. This in turn may lead to an adverse impact on interpersonal relationships, business opportunities, and self-esteem.

Melasma

Melasma-“mask of pregnancy” affects women during reproduction period because of the presence of hormones such as oestrogen, progesterone, melanocytes stimulating hormone.

Melasma affects the forehead, cheeks and upper lips resulting in macules (freckle like spots) and may then spread causing larger more confluent patches. Occasionally, it spreads to involve the sides of the neck and a similar condition may affect the shoulders and upper arms. Melasma can affect either the superficial skin surface or the deeper layer of the skin (dermis) or both.

Hormonal Imbalance

Hormonal changes due to pregnancy are perhaps the most common cause of hormonal imbalance.

However, you don't need to be pregnant to have your hormone levels be out of whack these days. Unfortunately, we are bombarded by chemicals, pesticides and food additives that can easily have the same effect on our hormones. These compounds are called xenoestrogens.

Apart from pregnancy, pigmentation due to hormonal changes can be due to causes like:

  • Illness
  • Taking birth control pills.
  • Hypothyroidism
  • Diabetes mellitus
  • Excessive copper levels in the body. Copper is closely related to the metabolism of the oestrogen hormone.
